This is not one of those games I think will drop a lot with repeated plays. We'll see after a few plays for me, but I think it's a safe bet it'll end up somewhere on my list at the end of the year. I bet he'd already put it in his top 25 games of all time. My brother wanted to play another game after we finished. But what's here should provide plenty of plays. So it's likely we'll see more scenarios, and maybe a new mechanic for new cards. I suspect this is going to be a smash hit. Of course more could get added with an expansion. And not having unique powers for each manor seemed like a missed opportunity. I also felt there should be more experiment cards. That's where the story stuff is really going to have to branch as much as they claimed. It's possible, with it being not tight the game could get samey after awhile. But it took us to the last round of the game to finish are starting goal cards. So it feels more like action selection than worker placement. And I wish the board was a little tighter, you can always go somewhere another player is just by paying $1 to the bank. The board is just going to be more open at 2 players. I didn't like there was no scaling for player count. It's not one of those once you know the story or choices it's ruined kind of things. But even if it's the same ones, it's not going to hurt replay value a whole lot. I dunno how many different paths are in the 1st scenario though. The story certainly did more than expected with how it forced us to have to do things outside of just experiments. The changing map worked great and we were always curious to see what changed.

How it implemented insanity and creepy into the game also works so well (and again so clean and easy to understand).

I really like how experiments work, and how you gain knowledge to upgrade your permanent knowledge that allows you to do things a little easier as the game goes on. I feel I could teach this to new gamers and they would have minimal issues. Every mechanic and wrinkles are so clean, and yet so thematic. I am most surprised by how clean the game is. 3.5 hours at 2 players, and no there wasn't much rule issues that cranked that up. I don't plan to play it again until the real app however.

It certainly was a full game, which I was unsure of going in. Speaking of which, the beta app worked fine, we really only ran into 1 real bug, and just a few typos. Maybe my feelings on that will change with the real app. I often felt it could have conveyed the same story in 1/2 the text. However it's very detailed and long winded. It's well written, and the story moments and choices work great. The cards are good (and often hilarious) and the great production really pulls you in. The theme is the star here, and it's so good. First generation I felt the app was a little unneeded, but that really changed as the game went on. But after the next two it's one of the best games I've played this year. In the end I squeezed out a 101-93 win.Īfter the first generation, I thought this was a pretty good game. But hilariously he aided me a bunch without knowing in the 2nd generation.
